The vision of the PRP Alumni Association is to build a strong support
network of Pleasure Ridge Park High School graduates. Our mission is
to improve the quality of education and student life at
Pleasure Ridge Park High School through a strategic alliance with its
alumni.
The Pleasure Ridge Park High School Alumni Association has pursued this
mission through a number of coordinated activities:
- The Annual Hall Of Fame Awards Dinner
Each year the PRP Alumni
Association hosts this dinner to offer an opportunity for PRP alumni to
network and an opportunity to acknowledge those who have given more,
through induction into the PRP Hall of Fame. The PRP Hall of Fame is
developed to honor people who are leaders in their fields and who are
role models for Pleasure Ridge Park High School students and others.
The PRP Hall of Fame fosters pride in our school and community and
recognizes achievements and contributions of those who were and are a
part of our school.
- Scholarships
The PRP Alumni Association raises funds from corporations
and individuals and offers scholarships to PRP graduates who would
otherwise not be able to attend college. Recipients apply or are
nominated by faculty at PRP and have used their scholarships to attend
colleges across the country in a variety of fields. The PRP Alumni
Association stays in touch with the recipients to monitor their progress
and to offer encouragement.
- Mentoring
While the scholarship aspect of the PRP Alumni Association is
very important, we also support current students by offering mentors to
those students identified by the school system to be most at risk of
dropping out. Mentors are trained by LEAP (Louisville Education &
Employment Partnership) professionals and offer encouragement and
stability from an adult role model. These mentors are not tutors, but
advisors and cheerleaders--something many children are missing. The PRP
Alumni Association is constantly recruiting mentors, with the goal of
providing a mentor for every requesting student.
- School Support
Often PRPHS finds itself needing adult volunteers for
short term projects, such as for career preparation activities (for example, mock
job interviews.) The PRP Alumni Association provides a pool of human
resources for the school when they have a need.
- Community Advocacy
The PRP Alumni Association allows us a collective
voice with which to acknowledge the strength of the community that we
call PRP.
